What is behind the Vegan-AIP
The Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP) is a version of the Paleo approach. The Autoimmune Protocol or AIP was created by Robb Wolf and Dr. Loren Cordain and further researched and developed by Sarah Ballantyne. The AIP is an elimination diet designed to improve health issues such as reducing symptoms caused by inflammation in your body, improve digestive health, and heal a leaky gut (Ballantyne, 2013).
The AIP is a restrictive diet that is meant to be followed for a certain period of time – at least for a minimum of 30 days, perhaps several months, depending on your individual issues and response to the AIP lifestyle. Introducing the AIP approach in your meals means that you have to remove certain foods that cause irritation and trigger autoimmune antibodies. Removing these irritants from your daily diet allows your gut to gradually heal, and hence your body will notice that progress too. “Once your gut has healed and your autoimmune antibodies are no longer being released there should be a dramatic reduction in symptoms” (Press, 2014, S. 7).
